Programme Description

This programme is jointly offered by the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychiatry. It is based on the scientist-practitioner model of training and will provide both academic and clinical training, enabling graduates of this programme to be able to practise as clinical psychologists in Hong Kong.

MSSc in Clinical Psychology — Clinical Placement

The Graduate Studies in Clinical Psychology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong started with a 2-year MSSc Programme in Clinical Psychology in 1988. It is a joint programme of the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychiatry leading to the degree of Master of Social Science (Clinical Psychology). The Programme aims at providing academic and professional preparation of clinical psychologists who will become competent scientists and practitioners.

Placement Requirements

At the MSSc level, students are required to complete at least 220 days of supervised practicum over two years, covering 5 blocks of placement. The 5 blocks (Total of 1 unit) should include 3 core ones and 2 electives.

The Core Placements include

the following service areas

(1) Adults with psychological problems

(2) Children or adolescents with psychological problems

(3) Individuals with general medical conditions or impairments including learning disabilities.

The Elective Placements include

the following service areas

Further Training

(1) Adults with psychological problems 

(2) Children or adolescents with psychological problems 

(3) Individuals with general medical conditions or impairments including learning disabilities.

Other fields:

Forensic Psychology, Health/Community Psychology, Psychology of Older Adults, Social/Family Services and Neuropsychology, etc.
